If you’ve been searching for an updated guide to market your band and music on the Internet (one that actually pertains to 2010…not 2002!), then you need to pick up a copy of 101 Ways
To Market Your Music On The Web.
Authored by leading UK music promoter Simon Adams, this book is brimming with useful music Internet resources to energize your music career and get the notoriety you rightfully deserve.
So yeah, you could say that I may be a bit partial to the book, since I was mentioned in it (page 85 for the curious!), but on a serious note, I’m very selective when it comes to recommending music industry books. I’ve read a ton of music biz books through the years. Some are highly relevant, while others are nonsensical and generic.
What I like about this book is its applicability. Each section — whether it be press, social networking, fan management, sync and film, performance or radio airplay – has recommended websites that are not just relevant to the United States, but also in other global markets as well. For instance, Adams gives useful tips on how to gain momentum in the Japanese music market; the second largest in the world, after the United States.
More than just a directory, each section includes detailed information regarding each website, its functionality and how to effectively use each site to build and expand an effective online presence, multiplying your opportunities through synergistic exposure.
Adams also includes the commentary of other artists and music biz experts including COO/Founder Jed Carlson of Reverbnation.com, About.com’s music host Heather McDonald, up and coming artist Santa Leja (this girl’s got it going on!), popular Canadian indie band Crush Luther and yours truly, Hugh Hession of Makingitinmusic.net.
