Toby Mac hits #1 on Billboard 200, First Christian album since 1997

Breaking the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 is not a typical scenario for any artist in the Christian genre, but Toby Mac has done it, landing the coveted #1 position during the week of September 15, 2012 with his latest, Eye On It. This marks the first album in the Christian genre to go #1 since 1997, when LeAnn Rhimes hit with You Light Up My Life – Inspirational Songs (Sept 27, 1997).

There are a few Christian acts that have managed to come close, particularly in 2011 with Casting Crowns Come to the Well and Red’s Until We Have Faces – both topping out at the #2 position, while this year, David Crowder Band’s Give us Rest, also at #2.

The Billboard 200 tracks the best selling albums in the United States, in ALL genres.
